Social Work Services

The school social worker at Cedar Riverside provides services to any

students who may be experiencing struggles that interfere with or impede

their educational performance.

 

The school social worker at Cedar Riverside provides services to all students

within the classroom setting and related curriculum.

 

•    Attend to the overall emotional well being of students.

            o    Attend to overall safety and protection of students

            o    Individual student counseling

                   •          Assigned times

                   •          Drop in / as needed

                               Crisis intervention

             o   Student Groups

                   •          Friendship I Social Skills

                   •          Grief! Loss

                   •          Anger Management

                   •          Conflict Resolution! Communication

•     Family / Parent! Guardian Support Services

                   •     Assistance with school related issues or concerns

                   •     Crisis Intervention

                   •     Advocacy for school programming

 

 

•     Collaboration activities with classroom teachers

            o    Character Education in classroom and small groups

•     High School Placement for 8th Graders

            o    Research high schools with students

            o    Make school visit or attend open house

            o    Meet with school social worker or counselor

 

•     Post-Secondary Planning

            o    Job shadowing

            o    Exploration and Research of career opportunities

 

• Member of Special Education Team

            o    Attend monthly meetings

            o    Consult with classroom teachers regarding interventions

            o    Conduct portions of assessments

            o    Provide services to students with identified special education needs if

                  necessary


Special Education

Special Education is a support service for students who have not been successful when given instruction within the regular education classroom. Special Education services are offered to student that have a learning disability, speech/language disability or have needs in the emotional/behavioral areas.

English as a Second Language Program

The English as a Second Language Program (ESL) is intended to give non-native English speaking students additional assistance in learning English. The ESL Program is designed to prepare students to listen, speak, read, and write independently in academic classes such as language arts, science, social studies, and mathematics.
